P Periodontitis merupakan penyakit keradangan pada jaringan periodonsium yangdisebabkan oleh bakteri spesifik. Bakteri menghasilkan enzim, toksin, sertaproduk-produk hasil metabolisme yang dapat merusak jaringan periodonsiumsecara langsung, maupun secara tidak langsung melalui stimulasi respon imun.Respon imun merupakan suatu mekanisme fungsi sistem imunitas tubuh yangdapat mengenali, mengeliminasi, dan menetralisasi bakteri dan produknyadengan tujuan melindungi jaringan pejamu terhadap kerusakan. Invasi bakterimelalui sulkus gingiva akan mengaktivasi komponen-komponen dalam sistemimun yaitu limfosit, makrofag, neutrofil, sel natural killer (NK), eosinofil, dan sel-selmediator, sebagai upaya pertahanan tubuh melawan infeksi. Respon imunterhadap antigen umumnya berfungsi protektif namun di sisi lain dapatmencetuskan reaksi hipersensitivitas dengan efek samping kerusakan jaringan.Reaksi hipersensitivitas terdiri atas empat tipe yaitu reaksi anafilaktik, reaksisitotoksik, reaksi kompleks imun, dan reaksi hipersensitivitas tipe lambat.
P Periodontitis is defined as an inflammatory disease of the periodontium caused byspecific bacteria. The bacteria possess numerous factors such as toxins,enzymes, and metabolite products that permit them to directly damage theperiodontium or indirectly compromise the host response. Immune response is amechanism of functional system immunity of the body that can recognize,eliminate, and also neutralize bacteria and their products in order to protect hosttissue from damage. Bacterial invasion through gingival sulcus will activatecomponents of the immune system such as lymphocyte, macrophage, neutrophil,natural killer cell, eosinophil, and mediator cells as host defense mechanismagainst infection. Immune responses against antigen provides protection. In theother hand can cause tissue injury which are termed hypersensitivity reactions.The reactions are immediate type hipersensitivity, cytotoxicity reaction, immunecomplex reaction, and delayed type hypersensitivity.
