P Penelitian tentang peran Piper betle Linn dalam kedokteran gigi telah banyakdilakukan, namun efeknya terhadap Streptococcus mutans belum diketahui.Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui daya hambat minimal Piper betle Linnterhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans in vitro. Biakan Streptococcusmutans INA99 yang sudah diidentifikasi berdasarkan pewamaan Gram, morfologikoloni, dan uji biokimia, ditumbuhkan di dalam media yang mengandung Piperbetle Linn dengan kadar 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, dan 6,25% di dalam sungkupanaerob selama 72 jam pada 37°C. Hasilnya menunjukan pada penipisan 12,5%merupakan daya hambat terkecil. Dua betas kertas saring dibagi ke dalam 3grup. Masing-masing grup terdiri atas 4 kertas saring, grup pertama dibasahidengan rebusan Piper betle Linn dan 2 grup lainnya masing-masing dibasahidengan klorheksidin. Setiap kertas saring diletakkan pada lempeng agar darahyang sudah disebar dengan Streptococcus mutans INA99. Setelah diinkubasiselama 3x24 jam di dalam sungkup anaerob pada 37°, lingkaran yang terbentukdiukur diameternya. Hasilnya diuji statistik dengan uji - t menunjukan tidakadanya perbedaan yang bermakna (p>0.05) antara Piper betle Linn 12,5% danklorheksidin. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa rebusanPiper betle Linn dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans padapenipisan 12,5%.
A A lot of research has been done on the benefits of Piper betle Linn in dentistry,however its effect on Streptococcus mutans INA99 has not yet beenacknowledged. This report reflects a research conducted to study the minimalinhibitory of Piper betle Linn in Streptococcus mutans INA99 in vitro.Streptococcus mutans INA99 identified upon grain stain, colony morphology, andbiochemical test were grown in media containing Piper betle Linn ofconcentrations 100%. 50%, 25%, 12,5%, and 6,25% and were placed intoanaerobic jar for 72 hours at 37°C. the result showed that the 12,5%concentration of Piper betle Linn was a minimal inhibitory. Twelve filter sheetswere divided into three groups. First group was soaked in boiled Piper betle Linnand two groups were each soaked in chlorhexidine as controls. Every filter sheetwas placed onto a plat in order for the blood to spread with Streptococcusmutans INA99. After 72 hours of incubation inside the anaerobic jar at 37°C, thediameter of the formed circle was measured. The result was examined with thestatistic tes-t and it showed that there was no significant difference (p>0,05)between Piper betle Linn of 12,5% concentration and chlorhexidine. Thisresearch concluded that boiled Piper betle Linn of 12,5% concentration caninhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans INA99.
