E Enhanced oil recovery (eor) using surfactant injection is one of the methods employed to improve oil recovery. however, its effectiveness is influenced by surfactant adsorption on the reservoir rock surface. this study aimed to analyze the effect of palm oil-based methyl ester sulfonate (mes) surfactant adsorption on the recovery factor of 35°api and 48°api crude oils using the core flooding method. the study was conducted experimentally through density, aqueous stability, phase behavior, interfacial tension (ift), wettability, static and dynamic adsorption, and core flooding tests using brine salinity variations of 5,000–10,000 ppm and surfactant concentrations ranging from 0.2% to 2%. the results showed that all surfactant formulations remained stable under all salinity conditions. adsorption increased with increasing surfactant concentration, while static adsorption values were consistently higher than dynamic adsorption values. wettability tests indicated a shift in rock wettability toward water-wet conditions, whereas the core flooding test produced total recovery factors of 84% for 35°api crude oil and 86% for 48°api crude oil. the findings indicate that surfactant adsorption affects the effectiveness of surfactant injection by reducing the amount of active surfactant available for oil mobilization, thereby influencing the recovery factor.
