H Head and neck radiotherapy is a significant treatment modality in thehead and neck region. Head and neck radiotherapy causes damage ofthe oral mucosa, salivary glands and bone tissues around the head andneck region. Intra oral lesions consist of xerostomia, caries, mucositis,taste disturbances, increase of mouth infection, and atrophy of thetongue papilla. Xerostomia is the most common symptom to occur onthe salivary glands and relates to caries, taste disturbances, atrophy ofthe tongue papilla and increase of mouth infection. These lesions causeuncomfortable feelings and disturb the patients life. Dentists areexpected to make the correct diagnosis and give proper treatment, sothat the best results can be obtained.
