D Drilling is the process of creating a wellbore to provide a pathway for hydrocarbon production from a reservoir. one of the most common problems encountered during drilling operations is stuck pipe, a condition in which part or all of the drill string becomes immobilized within the wellbore. at the phss field, formations containing significant amounts of coal increase the risk of stuck pipe due to poor cuttings conditions, gumbo formation, and tight hole occurrences. this study aims to classify the formation characteristics of the asp-00 sem-8040 well, analyze the causes of stuck pipe, and determine appropriate preventive measures. the research utilized data from the daily drilling report (ddr), final well report (fwr), mud report, survey data, drilling parameters, lithology, well profile, bottom hole assembly (bha), and field stratigraphy. the results indicate that the geological formations in the phss field are predominantly composed of sandstone, shale, coal (lignite), mudstone, and minor conglomerate. stuck pipe events can be identified through abnormalities in drilling parameters, including drag, torque, and pick-up weight. the most common type of stuck pipe encountered is pack-off, caused by wellbore instability, underbalanced conditions, and an undergauge wellbore. preventive measures include optimizing drilling parameters such as drag, rate of penetration (rop), and torque, as well as maintaining effective drilling fluid circulation to ensure efficient cuttings transport throughout the drilling operation.
