L Latar belakang: pada lanjut usia, penuaan menyebabkan berbagai perubahan pada jaringan dan organ tubuh, termasuk kondisi rongga mulut. masalah rongga mulut yang sering ditemukan pada lansia adalah kehilangan gigi. jumlah gigi yang dimiliki lansia berhubungan dengan status nutrisi dan fungsi kognitif. tujuan: untuk mengetahui hubungan antara jumlah gigi pada lansia dengan status nutrisi dan fungsi kognitif. metode: observasional analitik dengan desain cross-sectional melibatkan 110 responden. responden melakukan pemeriksaan intraoral untuk melihat jumlah gigi yang masih ada, serta menggunakan kuesioner mna long form dan mini-cog and clog test. uji korelasi spearman digunakan untuk menganalisis hubungan jumlah gigi lansia dengan status nutrisi dan fungsi kognitif. hasil: mayoritas lansia dengan jumlah gigi ≥20 memiliki status nutrisi baik, sedangkan lansia dengan jumlah gigi ≥20 memiliki fungsi kognitif normal. status nutrisi berhubungan signifikan dengan fungsi kognitif, di mana kekurangan maupun kelebihan asupan nutrisi dapat memengaruhi daya ingat. penggunaan gigi tiruan berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan mengunyah dan fungsi kognitif. kesimpulan: jumlah gigi memiliki hubungan dengan status nutrisi dan fungsi kognitif lansia.
B Background: aging is accompanied by progressive changes in body tissues and organs, including the oral cavity. one of the most common oral health problems in older adults is tooth loss. the number of remaining teeth in older adults has been associated with nutritional status and cognitive function. objective: to investigate the association between the number of teeth and both nutritional status and cognitive function in older adults. methods: this analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design and included 110 older adults. intraoral examinations were performed to determine the number of remaining teeth. nutritional status was assessed using the mini nutritional assessment (mna) long form, and cognitive function was evaluated using the mini-cog and clog test. spearman’s rank correlation was applied to analyze the relationships between the number of teeth, nutritional status, and cognitive function. results: most older adults with at least 20 remaining teeth had normal nutritional status, and those with at least 20 teeth also demonstrated normal cognitive function. nutritional status was significantly associated with cognitive function, indicating that both inadequate and excessive nutritional intake may affect memory performance. the use of dentures influenced masticatory ability, which in turn was related to cognitive function. conclusion: the number of remaining teeth is associated with nutritional status and cognitive function in older adults. maintaining adequate dentition and providing appropriate prosthetic rehabilitation may play an important role in preserving nutritional status and cognitive health in the elderly.
